Music Releases
Links to Spotify for releases under the Steven moniker. Steven is my middle name, named after my father. I had not used it or identified with it much until naming my music production project “Steven”.
A quit life
My most recent release, September 2025, is a compilation of voice memos recorded on my phone. The recordings actually span a good five years of collecting unique sounds and areas, moments of nostalgia basically. All chopped and layered imitating structure and form. The process stems from laziness and apathy, yet the acknowledgment of fun and creative spirit. Not wanting to polish a turd, yet thinking your shit just might not smell that bad. This tape isn’t supposed to sound “good”, there was no way to make that possible with my amateur recording style, but this tape is just supposed to convey a glimpse of human experience and the unique moments that intertwine both happiness and sadness.
Tape 2
Tape 2 was supposed to be B-sides and oddities, but my original project, “3weeks”, was removed from streaming due to a silly error on my side where I improperly used a sample. I have been scared to re-upload that project even without the sample in order to protect the music that still remains. Digital music is weird, you can lose the original rather easily and doesn’t actually exist in the physical world off screen. I’m failing to remember, and I’ve always been able to receive help from a number of musically minded friends, but I do believe I mixed and mastered the project alone outside of the song “Postitus”. Benny b baby AKA chilly-b and I produced that song together.
Using a still recently purchased SP-404 (the best thing I got out of the covid lockdown stimulus checks) and a stolen version of Logic Pro I scrambled to learn how to grow my music production skills and wrap my head around the ever deepening skillset focused on sound. Most of these tunes make use of samples and loops formed on the SP, the sources I’ve forgotten myself except for a select few. The house on the front cover represents a time I was surrounded by friendship and love. Truthfully some of my favorite times happened either in that house, or with the people there.
Grid Work
The Steven project had ruminated in my bedroom and online SoundCloud but I wanted to learn how to make it better, more clean, more clear. I was lucky to be living in a house full of musicians and convinced Etha (Coaches) to help me record, mix and master ten tracks for a loop based electronic project. We would record a couple bars of the loop, add the next part, record the drum loops and then arrange song structure, cutting and pasting to arrange form. Etha’s ear far surpasses mine and was able to push my sonics to a place where I still am proud of this project. Now if you’re paying attention, there are more than ten tracks on this tape. While working on the recording of this tape, I was so inspired that I kept writing and had another ten songs before the project was even finished. I continued with my learning and mixed and arranged these new songs on my own and had Etha master the levels before putting it all out together on one tape. The tracks headed DC are the secondary tracks, initially planned for an entirely different project.
